3D representation of the archaeological site of Monastiraki
Display of the photorealistic, 3D representation of the archaeological site of Apodoulou in Amari. Emphasis is placed on the 3D restoration of Complex A and the interior of Space 9 and the highlighting of their most important finds.
The modern village of Apodoulou is located in the province of Amari, about 20 km south-east of the palace in Phaistos and 18 km west of the palatial center in Monastiraki. The Minoan settlement is located 1 km northwest of the contemporary village. The main phase of occupation of the settlement dates back to the Protopalatial period (1900-1700 BC), while its destruction is placed around the end of the period (1700 BC). The settlement covers an area that is estimated at 3.500 sq.m while the protopalatial building complexes within it occupy an area of 625 sq.m. The excavations brought to light parts of six (6) building complexes (Complexes A, B, C, D, E, G), which are separated by narrow roads. Complex A, of 225 sq.m., has been excavated almost completely . It contained a complex of extensive storage areas and workshops, which communicated with each other. Typical examples include a large warehouse (Space 3), a pottery workshop (Space 6), and a Γ-shaped staircase (Space 9).
