3D representation of the archaeological site of Monastiraki
Display of the photorealistic, 3D representation of the archaeological site of Monastiraki in Amari and it's most significant findings.
The archaeological site of Monastiraki extends on the top and the slopes of a low hill in the valley of Amari, between Mount Idi and Mount Kedros.
Long-term systematic excavations have brought to light an extensive settlement of the Protopalatial period that dates to the MMI-MMIIB period (c. 2000 - 1700 BC) and has all the characteristics of a palatial center of the period, such as monumental architecture, urban planning, sealing archives, extensive workshops and storage areas, official apartments, places of worship and collective meeting. Three (3) building complexes have been excavated to date at Monastiraki, the East, the West and the South, while the Central Courtyard and the Sanctuary in the area around Kokkinos Charakas stand out within the archaeological site.
