Church of Agia Paraskevi (Saint Paraskevi) of Asomati

The church of Saint Paraskevi is located north of the Asomati Monastery in the Amari valley. It is a free cross plan church with a dome and dates from the early 16th century. An arcosolium, i.e. a funerary monument crowned with an arch, has been preserved in the northern arm of the cross. On the arcosolium’s lunette is preserved, in poor condition, a wall painting depicting a praying couple. The accompanying inscription identifies them with Georgios Hortatzis and his wife. The front of the sarcophagus depicts a hunting scene.
