Diskouri Monastery
The foundation of the Monastery of Diskouri dates back to the Venetian period, although only few remains have been preserved from that time. The monastic complex includes workshops, storehouses, monks' cells, refectory and a hegoumeneion (abbot’s quarters) built around the single nave church of St George. According to the customary law of the region, shepherds accused of stealing animals would swear before the icon of St George, invoking Zeus: "Yes, in the name of Zeus, I tell you to know that I have not harmed your animal by my act or intention".
