Argyroupolis
The settlement of Argyroupolis is located on the site of the ancient city of Lappa, which flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. During the Early Byzantine period, in Lappa was located the homonymous episcopal see. In the Middle Byzantine period, the settlement was renamed Polis and continued to flourish, as it did during the Venetian period. In the settlement, which has largely preserved its traditional character, there are important monuments from the Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and modern times. The settlement has been declared a historical monument by the Ministry of Culture and is protected.
Near the settlement, at the site of Pente Parthenes (“the Holy Five Virgins”), there is a Greek-Roman cemetery with tombs carved on the rock.
